DESCRIPTION

The workshop focuses on expressing thought through the body. We will find physical expression for thought and imagination through the technique and art of Corporeal Mime.

The theme will be approached through articulation, the musicality of movement, counterweights, walks, improvisation, and repertoire.

This course serves as an introduction to Corporeal Mime, while also challenging those with previous experience in the artform.

 

The course will be organized as a package of two independent weekend workshops. Participating in the second weekend requires attendance in the first weekend (or training in Corporeal Mime elsewhere).

 

Corporeal Mime was created by a French theatre revolutionary Etienne Decroux (1898–1991). It is a movement technique for physical actors and a living, developing art form.

Central to Corporeal Mime is the thinking body: The ability to physically express the rich scope of humanity, from concrete work to abstract thought and dreams.

 

TEACHER

Physical theatre practitioner Reetta Honkakoski specialized in Corporeal Mime technique for seven years in London, studying at the internationally acclaimed school of Theatre de L’Ange Fou. On top of her studies she was one of the schools assistant teachers and a performer in Theatre de L’Ange Fou. She is the only Finnish artist who has specialized in Corporeal Mime to this level.

Through Corporeal Mime Honkakoski strives to capture something shared, invisible and profound from human experience. Her stage productions have toured in Finland and abroad, most recently at Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2019 where The Desk, an ensemble show about cult behavior won the highly considered Scotsman Fringe First Award.
