The workshop is aimed at those for whom talking about their own professional skills or selling their work feels like a bit of a prank and embarrassing self-aggrandizement, but who nevertheless feel that they would like to develop in the matter. The entry requirement is playfulness.
DESCRIPTION
In the corporate world, giving an elevator speech is an essential part of professionalism. A functioning elevator speech/pitching means that you are able to present your product/service/project in a short time and succeed in arousing the listener's interest.
Articulation of one's own competence is also needed outside the corporate world. Even if professional activities are not driven by financial profit, everyone needs resources and partners.
In this course, giving an elevator speech is approached through physical theater, using comical nose masks. During the weekend, we move, make body and voice transformations, and practice producing a personal text and verbally articulating one's own skills with the help of an exaggerated character.
The goals of the course are not related to the development of mask characters, but to how nose masks could support the participants' self-expression and serve as tools in elevator speech practice.
The nose masks are made by Stephane Albericci.
TEACHER
Soile Mäkelä (MA) is a founder member of Teatteri Metamorfoosi, a physical theatre company based in Helsinki. Soile is a theater teacher who graduated from Theatre Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki in 2008. She is approaching theater making from the physical point of view and her teaching is highly influenced by the pedagogy of Jacque Lecoq. Mäkelä has been teaching theater with various masks for twenty years.
